I offered my Facebook followers a free virtual living room makeover. This was so I could show you, my readers, and any potential future clients the opportunity to see just exactly what to expect. This particular makeover is what I call a Level 1b ($75) in my Distance Decorating Services. The link below will take you to my business website where the variety of packages & rates are located.
A local lady, Lindsay, took me up on the offer so I will be providing information based on local availability. Distance Decorating does not have to be far away, although it is perfect for that.
How this particular service works is that the client is to provide me with clear face-on photos of each wall in her chosen room. The client also provides me with the following list: items that must stay in the room, what the client hates about the room, what the client loves about the room, what the client's short term goals (what the more immediate budget can handle), and what the their long term goals are for the room. Lastly, I need the client to provide me with inspiration photos ---- that can be pictures of wall colors, furniture styles, wall decor, trim styles, flooring, just whatever things that you would wish you could have if time & money were not holding you back. Lindsay was quick and thorough in providing me that information so I was able to get right to work. Here are her room photos:
Here are some of the details Lindsay provided to me:
After perusing her inspiration photos, I came up with the following virtual makeover. I sent her the sofa wall photo first for her approval and she loved it so I it was full steam ahead for the rest of the makeover.
You will notice that I eliminated the chair. Other than that, I will talk about the other things that are different in this virtual picture that aren't also in the other virtual pictures.
Lindsay said that she also needs a new ceiling fan/light fixture. I would suggest a simple white one so it kind of visually disappears into the ceiling.
My long term suggestions are basically just 3 things: sheet rock the walls, change out the baseboards to match the window & door trim, and install flooring. For the flooring, my suggestion would be to wait until you can afford to replace the flooring throughout so you can have one flooring throughout your main level. I'm a fan of vinyl plank flooring as it is easy to install, inexpensive, looks like real wood, comfortable to walk on, and durable. Here is a couple of plank styles that would look great in your space. My favorite is the bottom right and just for Lindsay's living room only, it would cost approx $1150 plus tax just for the flooring.
That, my friends, is a virtual makeover. The client can also keep corresponding with me about this room makeover indefinitely. I will continue to be available for questions, sourcing out products, etc.
