Update: "Shabby Chic" hall table sold

Finally, some furniture 'with a fresh perspective' ready for sale!  I have been planning to do this for quite some time now but had to focus on finishing my personal projects first.

This beautiful hall table I bought off Kijiji last year with this plan in mind.  I cleaned it up then began painting it with General Finishes Antique White Milk Paint.  I had read that with this paint you don't have to sand or prime first.  Yay!  So I began painting.  I had also read that its pretty much covered in the first coat, so when it was so NOT 'pretty much' covered in the first coat you would think I would have gone back to the website and reread the instructions.  Oh no.  LOL.  I just painted on the second coat with no better results.  THEN, I reread.  So.  Its all true EXCEPT with painting white over dark colors.  Hahaha.  Yup.  So, after 3 coats, I got distracted with other things for several months.

Well, last week I thought why not do the 'shabby chic' thing and then it won't matter that the color isn't a perfect coverage.  With shabby chic, its supposed to be imperfect.  So.  I grabbed a sanding sponge and got to work.  Work is the word.  This paint had been on there for several months and had cured really well.  The edges weren't quite so bad but the big flat areas were hard on the arms.  Moral of the story, don't leave half finished projects for several months.  

After distressing it with a sanding sponge (or two, or three), I waxed it with Nufinish.  I had heard and read that car wax was much more durable than regular furniture wax so after much research, when Mom & I redid her kitchen cupboards (yes, I haven't blogged about that YET), this brand was the winner.
