As you heard in the kitchen/dining video tour in one of my last posts, I was thoroughly tired of the beige walls in my kitchen. I chose that colour, Stonehouse by Benjamin Moore, originally to go with my flooring and dinnerware (Bazaar Brown from Walmart). Yes, it matched well. However, I am just beiged out. I have a love affair with grey that cannot be ignored any longer! Here is my 'beige' kitchen:
Not liking any of them, I tried the 5th wall . . . the ceiling! And since I plan to repaint the upper cabinets, too, I virtually painted them the same colour as the lowers in these pictures, also. Just so you can see what I mean, I here are some side-by-side comparisons of painting the ceiling or not.
Now that I had decided on grey for the walls and burnt orange for the ceiling, I had to pick out my new dinnerware! As you see in that last virtual photo above, I tried just changing out my patterned dinnerware and keeping the black dinnerware. That may have ended up resembling Halloween a little too much. LOL. I found the perfect colour of orange dinnerware at my local Pier1 Imports and lucky for me it was on clearance! Yay! I bought four 3 pc place settings but they were sold out of the matching mugs. I needed mugs for the floating shelf above my coffee bar! They checked for me and said there were none to be had. I even tried to order from the US site with no luck. In desperation I emailed Pier1.ca and they found me 2 in a neighbouring city so I called them immediately. They only had the 2 left . . . but it was just what I needed so I paid for them over the phone and they shipped them to my local store. This dinnerware is called Spice Route Dinnerware in the pumpkin colour. While shopping online, I had seen this gorgeous bird dinnerware brand new out on the US Pier1 Imports site but it was not showing on the Canadian site as of then. When I was in buying the pumpkin dinnerware, I asked them about the bird ones and they had just come in on the truck that day! I bought one to bring home to check out in my space and absolutely LOVED it. The problem was . . . I simply could not afford to buy the set. (insert weeping face here) So, I went online shopping again and found another set of dinnerware and ordered it and it arrived today! Its not the bird dinnerware but is a very close second on the gorgeous list. I am very happy with it and how it all looks together. I don't have the ceiling painting yet but . . . ok, ok. I will not keep you in suspense any longer. Here's the ta-da moment!! The pictures really don't do it justice. It really is gorgeous!! I can only imagine how pretty it will be once I get the ceiling and upper cabinets done. Step by step, one day at a time. Here is the dinnerware I purchased. When you click on the Pier1 dinnerware, you will be taken to the US site where it is still currently showing. The Stokes dinnerware is on a Canadian site. And here's some close-ups of them all set up. I am so happy with my choices! I did two posts today. I had to split them up so they weren't too overly long. The first one is on painting the walls . . . tips, techniques, and the paint I used. I will include the link below. The wall paint was provided by PPG Pittsburg Paints and is the PPG colour Greyhound (PPG1008-3 is the colour number).
